Camping at Kings Mountain, June 2010. |
Those of you who skipped our camping trip to Kings Mountain State Park missed out on some wonderful mountain scenery, close to home. Even with the temperatures above ninety, there were some very inviting spots right along the trails. |
Even though we were right on the main trail, our campsite turned out to be really secluded. It seems that we were the only ones who had made a reservation in the group area. Other than Mensa members, only one person spent more than ten minutes in the area - a hiker who had just done the Ridgeline Trail from Crowders Mountain, about fifteen miles north. He took a short break in the next campsite before moving on. |
But, being so close to the trail, we did see a few other people. Two or three at a time, they would stop at the map kiosk and review their plans, then continue on their way. The brown trail sign gives the distances to the Visitor Center at the National Military Park (2.2 miles), and to Lake Crawford (0.8 miles) which was just beyond the developed family campsites. |
