Annual Summer Picnic

Join us for our annual Summer Picnic! This will be held in the first shelter (Shelter #1) off the parking lot. Our picnic events will be planned between noon and 5:00 PM, but the shelter is reserved from 8:00AM to 8:00 PM and you are welcome to come in early or stay late!

This shelter is near the paved parking lot, a horseshoe pit, and a SAND VOLLEYBALL COURT. (If you want to get a volleyball game going, please bring a ball. Or a bucket for sand castles.) Hiking trails are also nearby.

We will be serving grilled chicken, hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided. Alcohol will be permitted. Chips, fruit, dessert, or a dish to pass would be very much appreciated but not required. If you’re planning on bringing something, please let us know so we can be sure we have a variety of food. Directions to Latta Plantation Nature Preserve, from Charlotte: On W.T. Harris Blvd., go WEST. (You can get to W.T. Harris from either I-485 Exit 21, or I-77Exit 18.) Keep going west until W.T. Harris dead ends into Mt.Holly-Huntersville Road, then turn left. Go just over 1 mile to the next traffic light, and turn right on Beatties Ford Road. Go roughly 1.5 miles, and watch for stone walls on both sides of the road. Turn left on Sample Road just after the stone walls start. You will pass the Nature Center on the right, the Raptor Center on the left, and finally Latta Place on the right. Sample Road ends at the parking lot for shelters 1 and 2.
